Canine Couture for a Good Cause!

Shawna Schuh, Michelle Gaylord, and Patricia

On Friday evening, I had the pleasure of attending the New York Pet Fashion show with Shawna Schuh, president of the Women in the Pet Industry Network (WIPIN.)

The event kicked off both the start of The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show and New York Fashion Week.  Proceeds will benefit the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, a wonderful group that helps our city’s animals in need.

The evening included a red carpet, runway shows featuring rescue dogs available for adoption and vendors selling everything from the latest in canine fashion to haute-cuisine treats. My particular favorite was the non-alcoholic wine for our furry friends!

I enjoyed the opportunity to put on my former NBC News producer cap and help Shawna as “videographer and producer”.  Shawna interviewed some of the fantastic WIPIN members attending and exhibiting at the show for an upcoming video project including Michelle Gaylord, president of Yappy Hour Vineyards. The doggie (and kitty!) wine is made with all human-grade ingredients and made in the USA!

It’s always great to see Jane Harrell, a 2013 Women in the Pet Industry Award Winner, who walked the runaway representing WIPIN !

The theme of this year’s show was “jewels” and models and canines were decked out in a variety of glittery (and lighted!) outfits.  In my book, the best dressed award of the evening goes to my fellow WIPIN member Amy Cox who does incredible rescue work in Texas with her husband, veterinarian, Dr. Cox .
